Desmos Workshop

This workshop will take a deep dive into how to most effectively use the desmos to save time and energy on the SAT. Typically, at least 50% of the questions on any given module can be approached with desmos. This workshop will get you comfortable with recognizing desmos-friendly questions, as well as some of the little known desmos tools that can help you solve the toughest questions.

Tackling the Toughest Math Q's

Tackling the Toughest Math Q's

The last few questions from Math Module 1 and many of the questions from the hard Math Module 2 contain some exquisitely difficult questions! This workshop is about understanding the patterns to difficulty and knowing how to spot them. While some hard math questions do test high level concepts (e.g. trig cofunctions like sinx = cosy), others are challenging for different reasons. For instance, a math question may be testing a very basic and fundamental concepts such as a factored form of a polynomial and function notation. However, if it’s presented with a bunch of strange constants and variables (e.g. if g(t) = (t – 24)(t – 7)(t + 8), and h(w) = g(t) + 4, what is the sum of all possible w values when g(t) = 0?), some students get scared :) This workshop is about exposing the common ways that test makers spice up hard questions. It will also review the commonly tested concepts/question types that occur near the end of the second hard module.

Students will receive a 50-question problem set with an answer key as a supplement to this course.

Cost: $90*; if cost is a barrier, please contact Annick.

*15% discount if all 4 summer workshops are pre-purchased.

Tackling Hard SAT Math Questions

In this workshop, we’ll enter the strange and somewhat unfamiliar world of hard SAT math questions. While hard math questions on the SAT will sometimes test challenging concepts, oftentimes the key to getting these questions right is to understand how test makers construct these questions. This workshop will dive deep into the common patterns on hard SAT math questions, how to recognize these patterns, as well as the key concepts to study in order to get these questions right.

Standard English Conventions Workshop

The Standard English Conventions domain of the SAT is tricky for many students. While some students can do well “sounding out” answers, they get stumped on some of the harder questions for which it may be nearly impossible to hear the right answer.

This workshop will breakdown how to approach the Standard English Convention questions with sets of grammar and punctuation rules, so that you can be confident in your answer choice. You’ll learn how to identify concepts by looking out for patterns in the answer choices, as well as the rules you can apply so you no longer have to pick an answer based on how it sounds.
